PKC and emergent properties in tumours, an opportunity or a liability?

We are interested in the Protein Kinase C (PKC) superfamily and their possible roles in cancer. The nature of the actions for these kinases and the molecular details form the foundation for both our understanding, but also for informing on the development of interventions. In this study concerning emergent properties that control the cell cycle, we have uncovered failsafe pathways in M-Phase under PKC control that are not an essential pathway in normal cells. In principle this provides an excellent therapeutic index for intervention – but is this really an opportunity or a liability?
